Chris Bocskei: A Real Voice for Kelowna City Council
For far too long, Rutland, our city’s largest and most vibrant neighborhood, has sat on the sidelines of major decisions at City Hall. I am running for Kelowna City Council because I believe every neighborhood deserves a dedicated champion in our local government. As a longtime Rutland resident, business owner, and community advocate, my platform is built on real, lived experience and a deep commitment to the future of our entire city.
1. Ending Civic Inequality: Fair Representation for Rutland & All Communities
Kelowna city councillors are elected to represent the entire city, but that shouldn't mean Rutland gets left behind or kept out of the loop.
2. Modernizing Homelessness Response: Triage, Case Management & Complex Care
We must accept a hard truth: we cannot help everyone, and if we try to save everyone without a strategic plan, we will fail entirely.
3. Protecting Kelowna's Environment
Kelowna’s parks, creeks, and trails are what make our city beautiful, but they need active protection. True environmentalism isn't just about high-level policy—it’s about roll-up-your-sleeve community action.
4. Safety Rooted in Common Sense and a Strong Police Presence
Police presence matters. Our families and local business owners deserve to feel secure in their own neighborhood
5. Responsible Infrastructure to Meet Our Demands
Kelowna is growing rapidly, but development cannot outpace the foundational systems that keep our city running. Gridlock hurts our economy, steals time away from our families, and adds pollution to our atmosphere.
6. Affordable Housing We Can Actually Afford
To tackle our housing crisis, we need practical solutions, no just high-rise buildings. My focus will be on championing a diverse mix of affordable rental units, townhomes, and multi-family options.
1. Action on Mill Creek:
Frequently featured in local news, Chris has been leading volunteer clean-ups along Mill Creek. His relentless environmental advocacy has successfully pressured city officials and property owners to remove tons of hazardous debris, protecting local ecosystems and microplastics from entering our lake.
2. Youth Sports & Mentorship:
Coaching local youth soccer for years, volunteering with the 9th Kelowna Raymer Elementary Beavers in 1991, and coaching and managing the Pusher Mitchell Panthers integration softball team.
3. Supporting the Vulnerable:
Continuing his hands-on dedication to the community by actively volunteering with the Salvation Army to support those in need.
4. Special Needs Advocacy:
Dedicating years to supporting children and youth with special needs, ensuring everyone in our community has a voice and a place to belong.
5. National Safety Leadership:
Speaking at conferences across Canada on the impacts of brain injuries and starring in bicycle helmet safety commercials with Mike Roberts.
